I’ve been a little stealth lately and hoped to be blogging more than ever this new year. Unfortunately, I’m not holding up my resolution like I planned. Not to mention that I have been getting involved in quite a bit of great causes lately too. The latest project that I have been involved with is donating my time to “It’s Not My Fault” (itsnotmyfault.org). I’ve joined a team of incredibly talented photographers and filmmakers to spread awareness and document our efforts getting the word out. To understand more about the HUGE issue of Sex Trafficking here in the United States I attending a screening of a documentary titled “Playground”.
The issues of human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children are receiving significant attention here in the Dallas/Ft Worth area as the cities prepare for a record number of visitors arriving for Super Bowl XLV. However, large events like these tend to bring a disease along with it, infecting neighborhoods and businesses alike. The ‘It’s Not My Fault’ campaign is trying to capitalize on this large scale event to promote awareness. Our team is planning some great things together to spread awareness and hopefully prevent this disease from spreading. It is hard to believe that this is occurring in America and that it could be happening in your neighborhood, children in your school district, and even in your church.
When Super Bowl weekend has ended and the visitors have all gone home, there will still be victims of human trafficking who still need a voice. I plan to be one of those voices and spread this awareness though my time and talents and I challenge you to do the same.
I met some friends at the Palace Theater in historic downtown Grapevine to attend the screening of Playground, a film to raise awareness about human trafficking and sexual exploitation in America. Directed by Libby Spears, Executive produced by George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and Steven Soderbergh.
There was a significant turn out at the Palace Theater and each person in attendance was provided informational packets and participated in the QA session. Several local churches were in attendance. Irving Bible Church (IBC) from Irving, Texas hosted the eye opening event.
After viewing the film, a panel of leaders from several local and international organizations led a discussion about the severity of the issue here in America.
After the QA session attendees met with the leaders of the organizations asked questions and inquired about how they can get involved at the local level. Many signed up for specific task force groups in their communities.
