Haiti Mission Trip

Dear friends and family,
Most of you are probably aware of the earthquake that shook Haiti earlier this year and you possibly observed the destruction during your busy day as you were flipping through the evening news or tuning to your favorite sitcom reality show. It would have been hard to miss due to the amount of coverage done by several of the network news stations. Well you are not alone in that experience. You see, I too am accustomed to sitting in my home and watching the glow of my television being entertained on a daily basis. Well, this time I found myself continuously flipping back to the news and watching the coverage of this tragedy over and over again. I watched families that lost everything, their homes, their belongings, their livelihood and worst of all their loved ones. Something drew me to these families who have very little to begin with, and within a few minutes, have absolutely nothing at all. As I sat there witnessing this in my home surrounded by “things”, all of a sudden those things didn’t matter much anymore. I told myself that if I had a chance to go there and help someone, I would do it in a heartbeat. I prayed at night for those families, people I didn’t even know. And over time when the news footage moved on to the next big story and my life continued on with my routine, I found myself only thinking about the Haiti victims every now and then and pretty soon, it was just once in a while.

Well, God has presented an opportunity to me in the recent month. Irving Bible Church, a place that I have attended for the past 5 years, will be participating as a member in a short-term mission trip to Haiti in October. I heard an announcement during a morning service and I felt compelled to inquire about it. I recognized it as my opportunity to make a difference, one that I said I would do in a heartbeat if given the chance. Well, this is my chance! I have been blessed with a skill set that I plan to put to good use the week of October 2 through October 9. I will be assisting with various construction projects in a region of Haiti just outside of Port au Prince. During my time there I also plan to do some photojournalism so my church can see the faces of those who will be touched by our ministry and witness the Holy Spirit working though us.

I am excited about this opportunity and am asking that you support in this mission to help the people of Haiti. I’d love to have you support financially if you feel compelled but more importantly I ask that you support me through your prayers. Pray that our team knows what God’s plan is for this trip and that we are to be used as He wishes.

We will be flying out of DFW Airport on October 2nd and returning October 9th. Please consider joining me though prayer and or financial support. If you decide to provide financial support please send your donation to Irving Bible Church, 2435 Kinwest Pkwy, Irving, TX 75063 with “Haiti Mission – Evan Chavez” in the memo. Or use the DONATE button at the top of this page to send your contribution via PayPal. All contributions are tax deductible.

Through Him.

Evan Chavez
