Whew! It has been a long time since I have updated my blog. I have been pretty busy lately and have neglected to keep everyone updated with my photography.
Well, here is the story:
I think this post explains a lot of what is going on right now. We are expecting our second child next month and we have been busy trying to keep up with all the changes we’ve experienced since April. It was at this time that an opportunity to pursue photography full time came. The last week in April my contract as an IT Contractor/Consultant expired. Instead of taking anything that was offered to me right away, which meant travel and time away from my family, I thought and prayed really hard about what I should do next. Photography used to be something I did on the side to supplement our income and provide a creative outlet for me to give back to others, now it is something that I decided to pursue full time. Of course, this decision wasn’t easy since we are now living on 1/6th of what I used to bring home and the economy is horrible. However, the reward of not having to travel and being able to spend more time with my family is something I really cannot put a value on.
Since April I have been able to apply my IT background to my own business and helping other fellow photographer’s with their businesses as well. I have provided technical consulting for a new photography studio and watched as they had a successful grand opening this past week. I have done simple things like teaching photography one-on-one classes to other’s that share the same passion, but who are not familiar enough with their camera or image editing software. I am grateful to be able to help others and at the same time provide my clients with images that document important milestones in their family’s lives as well. All of these opportunities have taught me something about myself which is; given the opportunity, I can directly impact others in a positive and rewarding way. I am now making more friends along the way that share the same interests, passions, family values and faith. When I look back on my decision to pursue photography full time, I know that I am blessed to have a supporting wife and family to provide encouragement and support rather than criticism and worry.
I thank each of you who have supported me and have referred your friends, family members and co-workers to me.
“We all have different gifts, according to the grace given to us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in the proportion to his faith. If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.”
Romans 12:6-8
That’s awesome Evan! I’m so proud of you! Great pics of Tera. Can’t wait to see pics of your new blessing!
Thanks Neil!
Way to go team Chavez! We are pulling for you!
Evan, congrats to the both of you! I’m sure you remember that first round of layoffs I got caught in at the electric company we used to work for ;). At that time, my oldest son was five weeks. It was stressful at times, but God took care of us and I found an even better job within a few months. The time off I was able to spend with my newly enlarged family was a blessing and something I’ll always cherish.
You’re a humble guy, so I’ll say it for you. “You’re really good at photography!”. If that’s where God is sending you, go in faith and watch Him work. And during those rough and stressed out moments, check out Philippians 4:6-7.
Thanks for the post Theo. I appreciate the kind words and the scripture reference. I’ll keep it close and reflect on it. I know good things are inshore for us and am excited to see Him work. Take care!
Congrats Evan and Tera on everything.
Thanks Donnie! I hope you, Jordan and Wren are doing well. It has been a while, we need to visit soon. Take care!
Evan- I can appreciate your challenges. I was laid off in 08, just 1 month after my 3rd was born. Until that point, I thought babies always cried, because my only experience with them was after 6:00 pm. What a blessing and game changer it was to spend entire days and weeks with a newborn, allowing my wife and I to truly co-parent. I pray your experience will be as positive as mine was. A wise person used to tell me, “it’s just money, it’s not life”, and it is true. Your photography is impressive, and I am sure you will be successful, no matter the path God has chosen for you. YITBOS.
Thank you Katie!
Go, Evan! I can’t wait to see where your passion for photography will lead you. I also can’t wait to see the gorgeous pics of that baby girl and her big sister.
